Women rights inKurdish society

As it is clear, up until the start of the 20th century, women’s lives were going down a common, stable path in human societies, which mostly was women being neglected and isolated at home. Their lives and works were limited to an enclosed environment. In other words when women were spoken about, a person’s mind would immediately think about cooking and raising children. However, that did not last, the emerge of cultural enlightenment and the industrial revolution before the 20th century, resulted in a productive change and a step forward in the women’s rights situation, especially in the developed countries. It was that in 1919, the rights to vote were given to women, afterwards women themselves earned the other remaining rights on their own. The political, cultural and social changes had good influence in the Kurdish society, but in more underdeveloped societies no impact was made on women’s rights and way of life. In the Kurdish society, women were also seen as inferior and as second class citizens. This was due to the dominating idea Kurdish culture and religion had on women. From the start of the 21st century, crucial changes have been seen in women’s lives. The technological revolution had a significant change on the Kurdish society to be more open and transparent. Alongside this, many critiques and people of culture criticized the long expired ideas of religion and culture, which made closing the gap with a more transparent society faster. Nowadays women’s lives have seen a big step forward, and women play a role in every aspect of life, in other meanings, women are freedom fighters in eastern Kurdistan, they are widely seen in the media, possess jobs at ministries, and also have important roles in the government, however it also needs to be said, that culture and religion play a huge role against that opening and enlightenment. We hope that the situation goes in favor of equality among all humans.
